Macrocarpa Cafe has history of an evolutionary process, this process reflects the changes over it's decades in the National Park Village.

The village history has roots with timber milling, railways and, in later years, the hydro-power scheme. Eventually those industries have all come to a close with tourism now becoming the main focus.

The Cafe building evolved with the times too. Firstly, the building has been home to many local families, changing hands over the years and then becoming a hostel to youth and backpackers travelling through. Finally, it was changed into the building we know today.

With tourism becoming the backbone to our local economy, the cafe continues it's evolution with new owners. The Macrocarpa Cafe is a place for An Experience and a Sense of Belonging. Whether you are a part of the local communities or just a traveler passing through the region you are welcome at the Macrocarpa Cafe. experience and belonging for everyone....

As a team, we pride ourselves on welcoming everyone to experience our great coffee and food but also our friendliness, warmth and hospitality.....

......we also hope you feel a sense of belonging. A connection to our beautiful and inspiring landscapes, culture, its history and of course the ambience of the cafe!

our blend is.....

Origin Coffee

For our classic, rich blends we use the brand Origin Coffee.  Origin Coffee comes from a sustainable, fair, and ethical plantation in Malawi. Origin Coffee supports the Malawian coffee workers and growers. The coffee beans are roasted right here in New Zealand, Otorohanga.

We know our coffee from plant to cup.
